  1. No wind more mosquitoes and flying insects that want to eat you alive. A place in the wind might be cold but mosquitoes and flying insects are powerless against the wind. So the weather, time of year and your tolerances to the cold or the mosquitoes relentlessly flying into your ears all night until you break and start complaining out loud about all the fn mosquitoes forgetting about all the other challenges that lay ahead๐Ÿ˜‚

  2. Thanks Dan, you always have great advice delivered in a casual non-formal way, just like a best mate would. Another spot not to camp is on a animal track. I had a mate that thought it was a good spot until 6 wild horses came stampeding through at mid night. I still laugh at that one.

  3. You can't just set up camp ! The landowners here are not going to let you. So cross TN off your bugout list… I have lived off-grid 10 months and bugged out 1 1/2 years. If you don't own the land don't try it in this state. It won't work…

  4. I have to confess that my bushcrafting days are over. I'm an old man and my health isn't great. I take issue with some of your assertions. The issues you raise are certainly ones to consider, but they aren't necessarily inescapable. A fallen tree can make a fine shelter and if it appears to be weak one can prop it up. I agree sleeping in a depression in a bad idea, but one can sleep on the other side of the root mass and have a good wall for a shelter and not be in a hole in the ground. The good thing about fallen trees is that they've fallen, they're not going to fall on you again and they can provide shelter, fuel and possibly bedding.

  5. This is why you need to check them.

They are dangerous if you are not expert.
Save you a lot of time if you are used to nature.

You always need to double triple check things before trusting them.

  6. Poor Jimmy pitched his tent in the basin.
We tried to tell him but he wouldn't listen.
When I walked pasted he was sitting in waist deep water in the basin, there in Brooklyn NSW.
The run off from all the rocks up the mountain just fill the basin.
There he was tent and all waist deep ,lol
